Which mechanisms do you use?

Both have the same principle in common: They store a key-value pair, which can be used to initiate further action, based on the key existence and/or their respective value.

Example: A contact form has following fields to fill in: name, sex, birthday, email. You – John Doe, male, born on 06.09.1978 and owning the email address john@doe.com – fill in the form. Following key-value pairs result from that:

Key
Value
name
John Doe
sex
male
birthday
06.09.1978
email
john@doe.com

What are the differences between cookies and the Web Storage API?

(Internet, Website or HTTP) cookies are small files (max. 4 KByte) storing data about a user, who has visited the website. These files get saved on your device disk and are accessible by your browser. Next time you visit the same website, your browser also transmits the stored cookie to the server providing the website, which can be processed further by the server.

The Web Storage API in form of sessionStorage and localStorage may store larger data (max. 5 MByte). This data cannot be transmitted to the server directly and is intended for local client/user interaction. While sessionStorage stores data until you close your browser at the latest, localStorage may store data permanently. Both variants, like cookies, can be deleted and modified via browser tools/settings and JavaScript instructions.

How do we use stored data?

Our website does primarily use first-party cookies, meaning, cookies are not shared with or between third parties. Third-party cookies may be set by base map layer providers. We only use cookies for functionality reasons and do not use them to track you, show targeted content or ads. All cookies are transmitted via secure connections.
Please note, that you have to visit the website with the same browser as before, to make use of custom preferences. Incognito/Private modes do not transmit saved cookies to the server nor save localStorage items either. Below you can see which cookies and Web Storage API items may be used by this website, whether any of them are currently used/saved and what their current value is. You can also delete certain unwanted cookies or Web Storage API items.

What goal does this website have?

This web-based toolbox aims to provide an intuitive way to evaluate the overall human health situation on a neighborhood spatial scale level with the help of developed indicators and therefore help to acomplish the goal of the project "Gesundheit in der Stadt: Maßnahmen für einen gesunden Lebensraum" ("Health in urban areas: Measures for a healthy living environment").

You can learn more about the project here (German).

How to use this toolbox?

Select the "Map" global tab at the bottom of this dashboard (second row). After that you can view information and adjust settings related to the map.
